Volker Stevin Receives Two CEA Awards for Innovation and Partnership in Infrastructure

Kyle Christensen receiving the awards from Minister Dreeshen on behalf of Volker Stevin Highways at the CEA Transportation Connects Awards Conference on March 9, 2026.

Volker Stevin Highways was part of a team recognized with a Minister’s Award for Transportation Innovation (MATI) and an Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors (TEC) Partnering Award at the Consulting Engineers of Alberta (CEA) Transportation Connects Conference for their role in a bridge rehabilitation project in Edmonton.

In 2023, a bridge strike caused structural damage to an eastbound bridge on Whitemud Drive and Anthony Henday Drive. Volker Stevin’s Infrastructure team responded alongside the Northeast Anthony Henday Drive (NEAHD) team on behalf of Capital City Link General Partnership (CCLGP).

The team collaborated to support the initial site assessment, installed temporary shoring, and implemented interim measures to maintain interim safe use of the structure. This work required short-term lane closures on NEAHD.

Volker Stevin also partnered with TEC and WSP, supporting the project team during the development of stabilization measures and repair design led by engineering teams.

These awards recognize the collaboration, coordination, and work involved in the response and repair of the structure.
