Under the direction of the foreman, the job of Rubber Tire Loader Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a loader. This position operates loader equipment with a front-mounted hydraulically powered bucket or scoop, which is used to transport aggregate or other materials, feed hoppers or chutes, and/or stockpile aggregates in water and sewer installation projects.
Equipment Operation:
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment; perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure the smooth operation of a loader.
- Understand and follow directions from the supervisor as required by the work area.
- Operate a loader, controls to lower, tilt bucket, and drive forward to force bucket into bulk material; move a lever to raise and tilt bucket when filled or to dump material.
- Operate a loader on public or private roadways, maintaining proper awareness of one’s surroundings.
Working Environment/Conditions:
- Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat, and humidity.
- Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 20 LBS on a regular basis.
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
- Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.
- Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements.
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:
Qualifications & Experience
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. is preferred.
- Minimum 2 – 3 years within the road construction industry.
- 1 – 2 years of experience operating a loader is required.
- Class 5 Driver’s License; with clean Driver’s Abstract.
- Knowledge of operation of a loader and other heavy equipment
- Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes and industry requirements.
- Ensure a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance, computerized controls, and electronics.
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Physically capable of repetitively lifting and carrying at least 25 lbs. regularly.
