Reporting to Quality Control Supervisor, a position of Material Tester 2 exists to aid in Quality Control testing of all aggregate and asphalt materials.
Position Accountabilities:
Aggregates:

- Quality control testing of materials being crushed.
- Stockpile material testing.
- Report results to a Senior Asphalt Inspector with final testing data for entry into the computer.
Asphalt:
-
- Take samples from a truck at the plant, take them to the lab, and process.
- Plant moistures.
- Follow proper testing procedures according to the asphalt being produced (e.g., A.T. specs).
- Ensuring proper personal protective equipment is worn when necessary.
- Conduct testing of all asphalt materials (bin samples, midstream samples).
- Relaying all information to the Senior Asphalt Inspector.
- Maintain a consistent inventory of lab equipment.
- Provide support when asphalt is coring.
- Maintain a consistent inventory of lab equipment.
- Keep the lab and equipment clean and usable.
- Assist in training part-time employees.
Communications:

- Project a professional image in dealing with the public, internal and external clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Model a clear understanding of who the internal and external customers of the Volker Stevin Group of Companies are.
- Demonstrate a “can-do” problem solving approach to all inquiries and concerns.
- Assist the team in managing the workload by keeping the team aware of any conflicting priorities.
- Know when to escalate an issue for an immediate response.
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:
Qualifications & Experience
- Engineering Technologist Degree.
- 3-5 years of on-the-job training and experience with aggregates and asphalt is an asset.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks at one time
- Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
- Willing to work long hours and weekends.
- Basic First Aid is an Asset.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license, driver abstract required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
