Lakes District Maintenance Inc. is seeking full-time permanent Highway Maintenance Workers/Operator in Dease Lake.

Under the direction of the foreman, this position is skilled in safely operating a variety of heavy equipment used in highway maintenance work. The Maintenance Worker/Operator is responsible for highway maintenance and will perform physical labor duties as required, ensuring that Highway Maintenance Program is delivered according to contract specifications.

This job entails all aspects of road maintenance, including but not limited to: equipment operation/truck driving, snow plowing, some physical labour, roadside and highway maintenance functions, sign replacement, guard rail maintenance, flagging, and other tasks as assigned. This position will entail shift work, working outside in all types of weather, as well as responding to emergency conditions and events.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

Qualifications & Experience

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. is preferred.
  • Must hold a valid BC Driver’s License of the appropriate class required to carry out related trade functions (Class 3 with air brake endorsement required, Class 1 preferred).
  • Good working knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations as they pertain to the driving and/or operation of the vehicles, equipment, and machinery required to carry out operations.
  • Traffic Control/Flagging certification, WHMIS certification, and Level 1 First Aid preferred.
  • Working knowledge of highway maintenance standards and environmental awareness as it relates to highway and bridge maintenance is an asset.
