Lakes District Maintenance Inc. is seeking a permanent full-time experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic or apprentice to work in Dease Lake, BC, with preference given to a Red Seal Certified or equivalent Trade Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic.

Under the direction of the Equipment and Facilities Manager, this position will perform duties and tasks related to the preventative and corrective maintenance of specialized construction equipment and other related construction equipment and vehicles.

This job entails performing skilled journeyman level mechanical work according to standards of the trade. Some travel and field work may be required but mainly working in a mechanical shop.

Specialized Abilities and Skills:

  • Physical and mental aptitude and capability to perform the trade functions and rigors of the job.
  • Ability to work in conjunction with other employees and periodically assist and/or direct the efforts of other employees, including apprentices.
  • Computer skills and experience as it relates to documentation, equipment diagnostic systems, and online researching capabilities (i.e. finding information on equipment repair, diagnoses, etc.).

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

Qualifications & Experience

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. is preferred.
  • Completion of a registered apprenticeship with a valid Certificate of Qualification issued by the Industrial Training Authority, or the approved equivalent, for the trade, or the training and work experience equivalent.
  • CVIP Inspection License or ability to obtain a CVIP Inspection License to perform CVI’s.
  • Valid BC driver’s license of the appropriate call required to carry out the related trade functions (Class 3 with air endorsement preferred).
  • Knowledge of the highway maintenance industry an asset, but not required.
