Wage: $30 – $38 / hour (based on skill level; salary increases as per Company policy).

Job requirements:
Language: Basic English
Education: Not required
Experience: 1 year of related experience
Industry experience: Industrial/commercial/institutional (ICI) construction, Road construction, Underground
Area of work experience: Backfilling, Ditching, Excavation, Land clearing, Sub-grade excavating, Trenching
Type of heavy equipment operated: Excavator, Grader, Packer, Bulldozer (large or small)
Work Site Environment: Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat, and humidity
Work conditions and physical capabilities: Physically demanding, Attention to detail, Fast-paced environment, Overtime required, Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 30 lbs on a regular basis
Own tools/equipment: Steel-toed safety boots
Security and safety: Driving record check (abstract) not required for the position, but may be needed to perform certain tasks, Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements

Duties:
Reporting to the Foreman, the Excavator Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of an Excavator to ensure the work completed is delivered according to Volker Stevin Contracting Ltd.’s company policies and procedures, Alberta Occupational Health and Safety, and contract specifications.
- Operate an excavator in a safe and appropriate manner, and maintain proper awareness of one’s surroundings while operating the excavator on public roadways.
- Clean and lubricate equipment, and refill equipment tanks.
- Operate computer-controlled equipment.
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
- Ensure the trench is excavated to the proper depth/grade and, at minimum, meets OH&S requirements.
- Responsible for crane material and/or equipment at the worksite. Be aware of the proper rigging process.
- Follow the directions of the ground crew regarding excavation, grading, craning, and gravel placement.
- Operate Excavator within an active site occupied by other heavy equipment and ground personnel, maintaining proper awareness of one’s surroundings.
- Ensure a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance.
- On occasion, as required, assist ground personnel.
- Operate other related equipment as required (e.g., grader, packer, etc.)
- Other related duties as required.
