Position Rationale:

Reporting to the Forman, the job of the Dozer Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Dozer. The Dozer Operator levels and scoops soil and controls the direction and angle of the equipment to move rocks and debris. 

Position Accountabilities:

Equipment Operations:

  • Operate the Dozer and other heavy equipment heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. 
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.  
  • Understand, interpret, and follow directions from supervisors as to required work area. 
  • Operate Dozer controls to regulate height and angle of the dozer blade and lower scarify to loosen packed soil to permit grading.  
  • Feel the levers and listen to equipment sounds to determine depth of the cut. 
  • Ensure a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance.  
  • Drive Dozer in successive passes over construction surface to raise or lower terrain to specified grade following markings on grade stakes or hand signals.  
  • Use the Dozer to level soil, move rock/ debris and scoop soil.

Technical Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Dozer and other heavy equipment.  
  • Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes and industry requirements.  
  • Understanding of computerized controls and electronics. 
  • GPS knowledge is an asset.

Working Environment/Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity and exposure to dust and asphalt. 
  • Possible out of town and weekend work on an as required basis.   
  • Must be physically capable of lifting 40 lbs. repetitively on a regular basis. 
  • Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements. 

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

Qualifications & Experience

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D preferred. 
  • Class 5 Driver’s License.  
  • Minimum 1 – 2 years’ experience within the road construction industry.  
  • 2 – 3 years’ experience operating a Dozer is required, GPS experience would be an asset, 
  • Relevant Oilfield Certification /Safety tickets would be an asset.
